The Prestige range uses a 116mm x 116mm square plate, significantly larger than the standard 85mm x 85mm plates found on the Clipsal Classic series. The increased size is a deliberate design choice: the large rocker mechanism requires less force to operate, reducing the physical dexterity needed to insert and remove plugs. For users with arthritis, reduced grip strength, or limited fine motor control, the oversized format makes a meaningful difference in daily use.
The soft-touch actuation mechanism distinguishes Prestige from standard toggle or rocker switches in the Clipsal 2000 Series. The switch action feels smooth rather than stiff, and the large surface area makes operation straightforward even with gloved hands or when reaching into dark spaces behind furniture.
Prestige covers power points, light switches, dimmers, blank plates, and switchplug combinations where a GPO and light switch occupy a single plate. This breadth allows electricians to specify the entire installation from one product line, creating a consistent visual appearance across all wall plates in a room or building. The range also includes vertical and horizontal mounting options for both single and double configurations, accommodating different wall box alignments without requiring custom solutions.
Prestige sits above the Classic series but below the premium Saturn and Solis ranges in Clipsal's product lineup. It occupies the mid-to-premium segment where function and appearance both matter but ultra-premium aesthetics or materials are not required. For budget-conscious projects that still need a step above basic builder-grade fittings, Prestige delivers without the cost of glass or metal face plates.
Prestige was originally developed with aged care facilities in mind. The large rocker format reduces the dexterity required to operate power points and switches, supporting residents with reduced grip strength or fine motor difficulties. This design thinking extends beyond aged care: the range is equally beneficial in disability housing, retirement villages, and family homes where children, elderly relatives, or anyone with temporary injuries needs to use electrical outlets.
Compliance with accessibility design guidelines in Australia often references large-format power points as a recommended feature in accessible bathrooms, bedrooms, and common areas. Prestige meets this brief without requiring specialist products or custom orders. The range is a standard Clipsal catalogue item, stocked by electrical wholesalers and familiar to local electricians.
The large-format plate creates a uniform look when Prestige power points and light switches from the same series are combined on multi-gang installations. Rather than mixing different plate sizes or switch mechanisms, specifying Prestige across an entire zone maintains visual consistency. The consistent 116mm plate size also simplifies wall box planning during the design phase, as all Prestige products share the same mounting footprint.
Prestige's flush-mount profile and large square format suit contemporary interiors where visible wiring devices are design elements rather than functional necessities hidden behind furniture. The range does not extend to brushed metal or coloured finishes, distinguishing it from Saturn and Solis. White Electric and Black are the available finishes, covering the majority of residential and commercial colour schemes without requiring a large inventory of finish variants.
The P2015 is the standard single power point in the Prestige series. It is rated at 10A 250V with a single pole configuration, meeting Australian standard AS/NZS 3112 for general purpose outlets. Single GPOs are more commonly specified in bedrooms, hallways, and utility spaces where outlet demand is lower and wall space is limited. The large plate format means the single GPO has substantial visual presence relative to the single socket it provides, which suits installations where the power point is a visible feature rather than a functional component hidden behind a bed or desk.
Available in White Electric and Black finishes, the P2015 suits both light-coloured walls where the white blends and dark accent walls where the white provides contrast. The black finish variant is increasingly specified in new builds with dark joinery and matte fixtures, where a white power point would stand out visually.
The P2025/2 is the primary double power point in the Prestige range, offering two outlets on a single large-format plate. It is the most commonly specified Prestige product in residential and light commercial applications. Double GPOs are the default specification for living areas, kitchens, and home offices where multiple devices need to be powered from a single wall position. The horizontal orientation is standard, though vertical mounting variants exist for installations where wall box positioning or adjacent fixtures require a vertical plate.
The double GPO format uses the same 116mm square plate as the single, maintaining visual consistency when singles and doubles are mixed across a room. The plate is large enough that the two sockets do not feel crowded, and plugs can be inserted without interference from adjacent connections.
Switchplug combinations pair a power point with a light switch on a single plate, reducing the number of wall cutouts required and simplifying installations where both functions are needed at the same location. Surge-protected variants are available within the P2000 Series, offering built-in protection against voltage spikes for sensitive equipment. These variants suit home offices, entertainment systems, and IT installations where connected devices warrant additional protection beyond the circuit breaker.
Installation note: Prestige power points are compatible with standard Australian wall boxes and do not require proprietary back-boxes. When replacing existing Clipsal Classic or 2000 Series power points, the larger 116mm Prestige plate will cover most existing wall cutouts, reducing the need for patching or repainting.
All Prestige GPOs are rated at 10 Amps and 250 Volts, meeting Australian standard AS/NZS 3112 for general purpose outlets. The single-pole switching configuration is standard across the range, with double-pole options available for specific commercial applications where isolation of both Active and Neutral is required. Products carry compliance marks required for sale and installation in Australia, manufactured under Schneider Electric's quality management systems.
The Prestige series uses a large-format square plate measuring 116mm x 116mm. The increased plate size improves visibility and ease of use in low-light conditions or for users with limited hand strength. Flush-mount depth is compatible with standard Australian wall boxes, requiring no special back-boxes for most residential installations. When replacing existing power points from smaller-format ranges, confirm the existing wall cutout is covered by the 116mm plate. In most cases, the Prestige plate is large enough to cover existing cutouts without patching.
The primary finish is White Electric, which is the most widely specified colour in residential and commercial projects. Black variants are available for contemporary interiors where contrast against light-coloured walls is desired. Mixing finishes within a single room or zone is generally avoided in professional specifications to maintain visual consistency. When combining Prestige power points with light switches from the same series, specify the same finish across all devices to create a uniform appearance.
Prestige switches and GPOs from the same series can be combined on multi-gang plates, allowing a consistent appearance across mixed switch and power point installations. The range is compatible with standard Australian wall boxes, making Prestige a straightforward replacement or upgrade option when updating older Classic or 2000 Series installations.
Prestige GPOs are a popular upgrade specification in new residential builds where homeowners want a step above the standard Classic range without the cost of Saturn or Solis. The large-format plate suits open-plan living areas, kitchens, and bedrooms where the power point is a visible design element. Electricians frequently recommend the Prestige range as a cost-effective premium option that is straightforward to install and widely stocked through electrical wholesalers.
In renovation projects, Prestige suits installations where existing power points are being replaced as part of a broader interior refresh. The larger plate size means most existing wall cutouts are covered without patching, simplifying the renovation process and reducing trades coordination.
The Prestige series is one of the few GPO ranges explicitly designed for accessibility, making it a preferred specification in aged care facilities, disability housing, and retirement villages. The large rocker reduces the physical effort required to insert and remove plugs, supporting residents with arthritis, reduced grip strength, or fine motor difficulties. The soft-switch mechanism requires less force to activate than standard toggle or rocker switches, further reducing the physical demands of daily use.
For projects targeting compliance with accessibility design guidelines, specifying Prestige across all accessible areas provides a practical, off-the-shelf solution. The range is familiar to electricians and stocked by wholesalers, avoiding the lead times or specialist sourcing associated with custom accessibility products.
Prestige is specified in commercial office fit-outs, hospitality venues, and retail environments where durability and a clean aesthetic are both priorities. The consistent large-format plate appearance creates a uniform look across mixed installations that include both power points and light switches from the same series. Electrical contractors working on commercial projects value the range's broad availability through electrical wholesalers and the compatibility of Prestige products with standard Australian back-boxes, simplifying procurement and reducing installation complexity.
The Clipsal Iconic range uses a slimmer, more contemporary plate profile compared to the large-format Prestige. Iconic offers a broader range of skin plate colours and finishes through its interchangeable cover system, whereas Prestige is limited to white and black. For accessibility applications, Prestige is the stronger choice due to its larger rocker mechanism. For design flexibility and colour customisation, Iconic offers more options. The choice between Prestige and Iconic often comes down to whether accessibility or aesthetic customisation is the priority.
Saturn and Solis are positioned above Prestige in the Clipsal hierarchy, featuring glass or metal face plates and a more premium aesthetic. Prestige offers comparable functionality at a lower unit cost, making it the preferred specification when budget is a consideration but a premium appearance is still required. Saturn and Solis do not share the large-format accessibility rocker that defines Prestige, making them less suitable for aged care or accessibility-focused projects. For high-end residential projects where appearance is the primary driver, Saturn or Solis may be appropriate. For projects where function, accessibility, and cost all matter, Prestige is the practical choice.
Competing products from brands such as Hager and Legrand offer similar mid-premium positioning but with different plate geometries and switch mechanisms. Clipsal's market dominance in Australia means Prestige products are more widely stocked through electrical wholesalers and more familiar to local electricians than imported alternatives. Warranty, compliance documentation, and local technical support are stronger considerations for Clipsal products given Schneider Electric's established presence in the Australian market. For projects where local availability and electrician familiarity matter, Prestige has a practical advantage over alternative brands.
Double GPOs are the default specification for living areas, kitchens, and home offices where multiple devices need to be powered from a single wall position. Single GPOs are more commonly used in bedrooms, hallways, and utility spaces where outlet demand is lower and wall space is limited. The choice between horizontal and vertical orientation depends on the wall box position and the visual preference of the homeowner or designer. When specifying for accessibility applications, double GPOs reduce the number of wall-mounted fittings a user needs to reach, simplifying daily use.
White Electric is the standard specification for most Australian residential interiors and is the safest choice for broad compatibility with existing wall plates and architraves. Black finish suits contemporary or industrial-style interiors and is increasingly specified in new builds with dark joinery and matte fixtures. Verify the finish code before ordering, as White Electric and Black are separate SKUs with different product codes. For large project orders, confirm stock availability with the supplier, as some finish variants may be subject to distributor lead times.
Clipsal Prestige GPOs are stocked by major electrical wholesalers across Australia, including specialist online electrical suppliers that offer trade and retail purchasing. The range is not typically available through general hardware retailers, as it is positioned as a trade-grade product sold primarily through electrical supply channels. Online availability through suppliers such as Sparky Direct has expanded access, with the full Prestige range including single GPOs, double GPOs, switches, and accessories available for direct purchase.
Verify the finish (WE for white, BK for black) and orientation (vertical or horizontal) before placing an order. Confirm compatibility with existing wall boxes if replacing an older product, particularly when upgrading from a smaller-format range to the 116mm Prestige plate. For large project orders, confirm lead times with the supplier as some Prestige variants may be subject to stock availability from the distributor.
